This is yet another false statement made by Paul. " I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law ". If Paul was referring to the [10 commandments] / 613 laws G-d gave on Mount Sanai, I think he is trying to pull a fast one here. The first coveting that is recorded is that of Eve. She coveted for what was not to be eaten. Cain coveted for the favor that Able got from G-d. He did not do what was right in the first place and then when Able got the blessing from G-d, he coveted for what was not his and in the process killed Abel. Remember flood during Noah's time?
