Who is my Neighbor? ~ Cross reference of Luke 10:27 to Leviticus 19:18

Image
Luke 10 has an event where Jesus uses the story of the good Samaritan to explain to the "expert in the law" who ones neighbor is. A priest and Levite ignore the injured person while a gentile comes to the aid of the person and makes sure he recovers. The point Jesus makes is we need to look for ways to help people in need. Similar events are recorded in Matthew & Mark as well but the story of the good Samaritan is found only in Luke. Jesus uses a Priest & a Levite to stress that though both these are thought to be "good" people they did not care for the injured man. Torah has several passages that say what one should do if they find a person in the field [on the road] injured or even dead. In fact there is a passage that says if a persons life is in danger one could even break the law that prohibits them from helping the person. I don't have much to add here but agree that we need to always be willing to help the people in need. All Images are links to G...

Greatest command? ~ Cross reference of Mark 12:30 to Deuteronomy 6:4

Image
In these passages a teacher of the law comes to Jesus and tests him by asking what is the greatest command. Jesus as a good Jew says the Shema. I applaud him for that. We all need to worship the ONE TRUE G-D of the universe. Jesus quotes the Shema found in Deuteronomy 6 and the command to love your neighbors found in Leviticus 19. G-d gave his people 613 commandments, and 7 commandments for gentiles[Noahides]. Shema covers commandment 1 through 4 of the 10 commandments that G-d gave Israel on Mount Sanai. Commandments 5-10 cover relationship with fellow people. We will not commit any of the negative commands if we love our neighbor as ourselves. All Images are links to Google Images.
