Were all remnant of Israel saved by grace? ~ Cross reference of Romans 11:5 to 1 Kings 19:18

Paul in Romans 11 is grappling with a very important question and that is "If god sent Jesus as the messiah to redeem Israel [from sins which is no where in the Tanakh] then god failed as only a small group of Jews believed in Jesus" So Paul tries to patch this issue with making a statement that Just as G-d kept a remnant for himself during the time of Elijah, he kept a few Jews that believed in Jesus and thereby kept his promise to Israel. Kind of lame since these few Jews disappeared within the next 100 years and the church for last 2000 years has been a gentile religion. Only in the last 30 years a small number of Jews have started to call themselves as the "messianic Jews" and these people keep the law and believe that Jesus is their messiah but not god as Christians believe.
