Was Jesus the Passover lamb? ~ Cross reference of John 19:36 to Exodus 12:46

The Passover is such an important event in the history of G-d's people. They celebrate this event every year to remember the exodus out of  slavery from Egypt.

It is a historical event and has nothing to do with atonement of sins as Christians want to make it.

I will call out some reasons why Jesus is not the Passover lamb in this post.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

John 19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”

Exodus 12:46 It must be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the meat out of the house to the outside, neither shall you break any of its bones.

Numbers 9:12 They shall not leave over anything from it until the next morning, and they shall not break any of its bones. They shall make it in accordance with all the statutes connected with the Passover sacrifice.

Psalm 34:21 He guards all his bones; not one of them was broken.
  • G-d considers human sacrifices an abomination and there are several passages where he clearly says it is not allowed. Why would the same G-d ask for Jesus's blood on the cross.
  • Jesus had so many bruises and blemishes given to him by the Romans. Christians can claim that Jesus was sinless and hence spiritually pure does not mean that Jesus could have physical bruises.
  • The whole context of the Passover lamb was to save the first born from death. Christians believe that Jesus’s death is for saving anyone that believes in him.
  • The Lamb was not to taken out of the house, Jesus was crucified outside Jerusalem wall.
  • The Lamb must be in the house for 4 days and examined to make sure it was without blemishes, Jesus was out in the open till the night before his crucifixion.
  • The Passover lamb was killed and the blood put on the door post and then the lamb was  burnt and eaten.
  • There was no sacrifice made with the blood on the altar. Sin sacrifices have to be offered on the altar and sacrificial system G-d prescribed for atonement of unintentional sins came only after Israel came out of Egypt.
  • The lamb was chosen as it was considered as a god by the Egyptians. Comparing Jesus to the lamb does not fit well for the Christian belief.
  • There is nothing about Jesus in Psalm 34. It is about a poor and needy person who looks to G-d and G-d saved him in need.
