Did disciples see angels come up and down to meet Jesus? ~ Cross reference of John 1:50 to Genesis 29:10


Click this link to see how Rabbi Michael Skobac debunks messianic prophecies that Jesus supposedly fulfilled. You will see these prophecies turning out to be [fore]shadows, clouds, connections, parallels, types, mirrors ... that make you wonder why Christians come up with these connections. Are they misguided or they love Jesus so much, that they see Jesus in everything.

Thankfully NIV does not call this one as a prophecy but gives a cross reference to Genesis 29:10 which is about Jacob's ladder. I think John[Church father(s)] are trying to say that Tanakh has a fore[shadow] that angels will come up and down a ladder and have quality time with Jesus.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

John 1:50 Jesus said, “You believe[h] because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you,[i] you[j] will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’[k] the Son of Man.”

Genesis 29:10 And Jacob left Beer sheba, and he went to Haran. 11 And he arrived at the place and lodged there because the sun had set, and he took some of the stones of the place and placed [them] at his head, and he lay down in that place. 12 And he dreamed, and behold! a ladder set up on the ground and its top reached to heaven; and behold, angels of God were ascending and descending upon it. 13 And behold, the Lord was standing over him, and He said, "I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac; the land upon which you are lying to you I will give it and to your seed.
  • This is a historical event that happened to Jacob
  • He saw a vision of G-d's glory and he was promised of good things that G-d would do for him. All these good things happened in due time. 
  • What has this got to do with Jesus? Is Jesus a type or foreshadow of Jacob?
  • I wonder if Jesus's disciples ever saw angels coming up and down to Jesus. I think not else at least someone would have mentioned such an awesome thing.
  • I think only in Luke's gospel you find one angel coming and strengthening Jesus and he prays even harder that he should not die on the cross.
  • Just curious, Jesus's disciples were sleeping and Jesus to wake them up so who told Luke that about the angel?
Luke 22:43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Did the "The abomination that causes desolation" happen yet? ~ Cross reference of Matthew 24:15 to Daniel 9:26

In Matthew 24 Jesus prophesies about the destruction of the temple. When his disciples ask Jesus when he will return at the end of the age, I think they were asking when he will return after being resurrected, he says he does not know and only god knows. Matthew was written around 80 CE and the temple was destroyed in 70 CE. Do we call this prophecy or history? Jesus does however share details of the things that will happen between his resurrection and his return. He talks about false prophets coming and claiming that they are Jesus, natural calamities that will occur and finally "the abomination that causes desolation" will have to occur. In verse 29 Jesus says after all these things have happened, immediately he will come and everyone on the earth will see him coming in the clouds with his angels.
