Did Herod execute all male babies under 2 Years? - Cross reference of Matthew 2:18 to Jeremiah 31:14.

Herod was known to be a very insecure person and history records that he even murdered members of his own family. He was also a brilliant architect and was responsible for extending and 2nd Temple and making into a magnificent piece of architecture.

If all his good and bad deeds are recorded by Josephus, Talmud & the Roman historical writings, I wonder why no historical Jewish or Roman documents have details about this mass murder of all the male children below 2 years in Bethlehem and its surroundings?

Did Matthew make a mistake? Sorry, I meant Did Matthew make it up?

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Matthew 2:18 “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

Jeremiah 31:14 So says the Lord: A voice is heard on high, lamentation, bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, she refuses to be comforted for her children for they are not. 15 So says the Lord: Refrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for there is reward for your work, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. 16 And there is hope for your future, says the Lord, and the children shall return to their own border. 17 I have indeed heard Ephraim complaining, [saying,] "You have chastised me, and I was chastised as an ungoaded calf, O lead me back, and I will return, for You are the Lord, my God.

Consider the below points and decide for yourself if Jeremiah actually prophesied that Herod would kill all the male babies under 2 years of age to eliminate Jesus.
  1. There is no historical records either in the Jewish or Roman documents that these killings happened.
  2. I wonder why none of the other gospels write about it given that this was such a gruesome act.
  3. That said, the verse in Jeremiah is not talking about Rachel crying for some infants who were killed. It is talking about Ephraim being taken into captivity that happened when Assyria took them into exile.
  4. if you read Jeremiah 31:15 you will see that G-d is telling them to refrain from weeping as these children that were exiled will return from their captivity.
  5. If you read Jeremiah 31:17 you will see why this IS NOT referring to Jesus. Ephraim is telling G-d that he has been chastised enough by G-d and wants to come back and is asking G-d to lead him back to his land.
  6. This verse poses a big challenge for trinitarians as if this is a prophecy about Jesus and not the 10 northern tribes, why will god ask god to take him back?
