Is the message of the cross foolishness? ~ Cross reference of 1 Corinthians 1:19 to Isaiah 29:14

Paul starts off asserting that the cross is NOT foolishness. I think he was facing opposition from Jews that the gospel he was preaching was not right. The Jews did not accept that the messiah would be killed and then raise on the 3rd day so that the sins of people will be washed away.

So rather than dealing with the core issue he was facing, he uses a verse from Tanakh out of context to say that these wise Jews were made fools by G-d as prophesied in Isaiah 29

Interestingly Paul never defends the killing and "resurrection" of Jesus. He just makes an assertion that this is how G-d planned salvation for mankind[he claims that he got these revelations from G-d & Jesus], and then builds his religion based on that axiom. If you know of any passages where he explains that this was prophesied, do let me know.

Let's see if Isaiah 29 prophesied that people who do not believe in the "salvation of the cross" have been made foolish so they will not be able to understand the value of the cross.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]

Isaiah 29:13 And the Lord said: "Because this people has come near; with their mouth and with their lips they honor Me, but their heart they draw far away from Me, and their fear of Me has become a command of people, which has been taught. 14 Therefore, I will continue to perform obscurity to this people, obscurity upon obscurity, and the wisdom of his wise men shall be lost, and the understanding of his geniuses shall be hidden. 15 Woe to those who think deeply to hide counsel from the Lord, and their deeds are in the dark. And they said, "Who sees us and who knows us?"
  • Isaiah 29 is not about the messiah or the cross or about people who will not believe in the cross.
  • G-d is chastising the people of Isaiah's generation that they are not worshiping G-d with all their heart and soul.
  • If you read verse 13, you will see that the people during this time, were offering sacrifices and prayers to G-d not out of love and fear but as a fulfillment of commands that were given by elders.
  • In verse 14 G-d says that he will make the minds of the elders dull so they will not be able to correct the people and they will continue in their foolishness of performing rituals as a command and thinking that G-d does not notice it.
  • If you read verses 17-24 you will see how G-d will restore Israel and how they will come to know about the ONE TRUE G-D of the universe.
  • Se verse 23 that says just the opposite of what Paul Says. G-d says Jacob and the whole world will revere G-d not the cross of Jesus.
  • What has any of this to do with people who were challenging Paul about the gospel of the dead and risen messiah that Paul was teaching.
  • Isaiah 29 is about people not worshiping G-d the right way and is not about believing in the message of the cross of Jesus.
