Genesis 3:15 - Was the virgin birth of Jesus as our savior planned by god even before the creation of the universe?
I have heard pastors preach about the "Original Sin" and how we all humans are hopeless sinners doomed to hell because of Adam's sin.
This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.
My encouragement to you to read at least the whole chapter of Tanakh in context to understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
So I started reading up commentaries of both Pastors and Rabbis and after a detail study I am sharing some of my thoughts. Decide for yourself if G-d provided a savior for mankind even before creating the universe.
Hagar runs away from Sarai & an angel of G-d meets her and makes her the below promise
Rebecca's Brother and Mother bless her before sending her to be the wife of Isaac.
Genesis 24:60 And they blessed Rebecca and said to her, "Our sister, may you become thousands of myriads, and may your seed inherit the cities of their enemies."

Genesis 3:15 And the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed be you more than all the cattle and more than all the beasts of the field; you shall walk on your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I shall place hatred between you and between the woman, and between your seed and between her seed. He will crush your head, and you will bite his heel."
I also heard the good news about how G-d in his infinite mercy planned for a virgin to give birth to a son who would crush Satan and save us from hell. I always heard pastors use Isaiah 7:14 as a proof for the virgin birth from Tanakh.
It was new to me when I heard a pastor say that G-d knew even before he created the universe that we will fall to sin and he planned for the redeemer and you can see this in Genesis 3:15.
The Christian view is that "seed of the woman" should mean that 4000 years later a virgin will give birth to a son and he will save us from Satan, sin and hell.

Context of Genesis 3
- This is a passage that happened in history and there seems to be no indications that this is a messianic prophecy. What I mean is that, when there is a messianic prophecy, you will find certain markers like "Son of David", "Anointed", "King", "Ruler", "Justice", "Peace", "Knowledge of G-d" etc.
- The context of Genesis 3:15 is that G-d is cursing the snake for tempting Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Both Adam & Eve ate the fruit and realize they are naked and were hiding from G-d.
- G-d curses the snake and tells it that there will be continual enmity between the snake & its seed with the woman & its seed.
- One can interpret this in the literal sense that for eternity humans will hate snakes and will try to kill them and the snakes will try to kill the humans. I think all of us have an inherent aversion and dislike for snakes. There may be a few exceptions who like snakes and keep them as pets but generally we all can easily agree that snakes are beings we don't want around us.
- Another way of looking at this is that the snake is a symbolism for sin, sin will always try to defeat humans and humans will always try to overcome sin. I believe we all have good in us and want to do what is right, kind, loving & pleasing to G-d. We all sin but we don't feel thrilled about it. There may be a few exceptions who might like to sin and harm others and feel their purpose has been fulfilled.
- The word "Seed" comes up 100+ times in the Tanakh and each time it means offspring / descendants [in plural] of a man.
- Most times Tanakh uses "seed" of a man but in Genesis 3:15 you see "seed of a woman" and hence Christians picked it up and built this theory that this is referring to the virgin birth of Jesus.
- I think Paul did not believe that Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, as Paul after 25 years after Jesus was killed says that that soon god will crush Satan under your feet.
- Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
That said, I will share a few passages from Tanakh where "seed of a woman" is used and in all these cases it was not referring to a virgin giving birth. So why do Christians believe that Genesis 3:15 is referring to Jesus?
Hagar runs away from Sarai & an angel of G-d meets her and makes her the below promise
Genesis 16:10 And the angel of the Lord said to her, "I will greatly multiply your seed, and it will not be counted for abundance."
Rebecca's Brother and Mother bless her before sending her to be the wife of Isaac.
Genesis 24:60 And they blessed Rebecca and said to her, "Our sister, may you become thousands of myriads, and may your seed inherit the cities of their enemies."
Eli blesses Hanna & Elkanah after Samuel is born and offered for G-d's service as pledged by Hanna.
