Was Jesus the light people living in darkness saw? ~ Cross reference of Matthew 4:16 to Isaiah 8:23

Was Jesus the light that people living in darkness saw. Did Isaiah prophesy about this? There are 2 possibilities that I can think of.
  1. Isaiah was talking about the darkness that Judah was surrounded by when 185,000 Assyrians were going to attack them and there was gloom & fear all around. Then the Angel of G-d goes out in the night and kills all the 185,000 soldiers and there is great rejoicing in Judah. This could be the light.
  2. Isaiah actually prophesied that 700 years later Jesus will come out of the region of Galilee and all the people who were living in darkness will find him[the light]

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Matthew 4:16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”[f]

Isaiah 8:23 For there is no weariness to the one who oppresses her; like the first time, he dealt mildly, [exiling only] the land of Zebulun and the land of Naftali, and the last one he dealt harshly, the way of the sea, and the other side of the Jordan, the attraction of the nations. Isaiah 9:1 The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light; those who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, light shone upon them.

Consider the below points and decide if Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would come out of Galilee as the light that people who were living in darkness would see.

If you read the full chapters of Isaiah 8 & 9 and 2 Kings 15 & 19 that have events from the same period you will see details of the attack on Israel and Judah by Assyria.

Matthew picking Isaiah 9:1 and using it to say that Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would came 700 years later from Galilee and would be the light that the people who were sitting in darkness will see does not seem right as Isaiah is talking about the great light in context of the defeat of Assyria when it came to attack Judah.
  1. Isaiah 8 & 9 is all about Israel[Northern 10 tribes] being attacked by the king of Assyria and finally Israel being exiled out of their land. Isaiah 8:23 talks about what Assyria did in each of the attacks.
  2. The first time Assyria exiled only the tribes of Zebulan and Nafthali.
  3. The second time Assyria attacked and exiled the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.”
  4. The third exile took place in the sixth year of Hezekiah, the ninth year of Hoshea’s revolt, when Samaria which was the capital of Israel was captured, and all the remaining people was exiled.
  5. In between there was a failed attempt by Sennacherib on Judah [Southern Kingdom] when he came with 185,000 soldiers to fight against Judah. This is gloom, fear and darkness that Isaiah is talking about. King Hezekiah was ruling at this time.
  6. G-d sent his angel and he slew all the soldiers in the night and there was a great rejoicing in Judah and this is the great light that Isaiah 9:1 is talking about.
