Hats off to Jesus for driving the money changers from the temple court ~ Cross reference of Matthew 21:13 to Isaiah 56:6
The outer side of the temple court was built with booths where the animals needed for sacrifice were sold. This system was used for centuries wherein people coming from far away could not bring the animals from their hometown so they would buy the animals in the temple court and offer it as a sacrifice.
We know both from historical & rabbinic records that the Sadducees were corrupt and they setup rules that were exploiting the people.
Hats off to Jesus !!!

Isaiah 56:6 And the foreigners who join with the Lord to serve Him and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants, everyone who observes the Sabbath from profaning it and who holds fast to My covenant. 7 I will bring them to My holy mount, and I will cause them to rejoice in My house of prayer, their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be acceptable upon My altar, for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. 8 So says the Lord God, Who gathers in the dispersed of Israel, I will yet gather others to him, together with his gathered ones.

- G-d commanded that three times in a year the males have to make sacrifices in the temple these festivals were
- Pesach ~ Passover, is a major Jewish holiday that occurs on the 15th day of Nisan, the first month of Aviv, or spring and is celebrated to mark the redemption of Israel from slavery in Egypt.
- Shavuot ~ Feast of Weeks, commemorates the revelation of the Torah on Mt. Sinai. Occurs on the 50th day after the 49 days of counting the Omer.
- Sukkot ~ Feast of Booths, This is a festival that commemorates the care, love and protection G-d gave Israel for 40 years in the desert. It is a festival of thanksgiving that begins on the 15th day of Tishri, five days after Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
- When pilgrims from far off places came to Jerusalem for these festivals, they would not be able to bring the animals for sacrifices so provision was made for them to buy the animals at the temple.
- Since most of these pilgrims lived in Roman ruled towns / cities they would have Roman coins with images of the emperor. They could not use that coin to buy the animal to be used for sacrifice.
- Money changers were at the temple court to exchange the the Roman coins and give coins that could be used to buy the animals.
- So what troubled Jesus that he drove them out.
- The money changers were changing the exchange rate so the people had to give more roman coins to get the temple coins
- The animal traders were charging more than what should be charged for the animals
- These traders were supposed to be outside the temple court where the booths were, but because the Sadducees were corrupt they allowed the traders to come into the temple court that was supposed to be used for people to gather and read the Torah and pray.
- Found this layout of the 2nd Jerusalem Temple that is quite detailed but not sure of it's accuracy.
