Why did Mark think Jesus was a false prophet? ~ Cross reference of Mark 14:27 to Zechariah 13:7

Why does Mark make Jesus quote a passage from Tanakh that is about false prophets / shepherds. He uses this cross reference to prove that Tanakh prophesied that when Jesus is arrested, all his disciples will be scattered.

I could never understand why G-d would strike Jesus[Zechariah says G-d will strike] and his disciples in the first place. Remember Jesus was sent by god to die for our sins.

Let's see how Mark quotes the wrong passage and makes Jesus a false prophet.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Mark 14:27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written: “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’[d]

Zechariah 13:7 O sword, awaken against My shepherd and against the man who is associated with Me! says the Lord of Hosts. Smite the shepherd, and the flock shall scatter, and I will return My hand upon the little ones.

Let is see what Zechariah 13 is about.
  • We see in verse 1 that G-d is talking about the messianic age when the messiah will come to Jerusalem.
  • Verses 2-7 G-d is saying that, at that time he will destroy all the false prophets who prophesy lies. You see here that a father & mother will chastise a son who calls himself a prophet and even kill him for speaking lies in the name of G-d.
  • G-d says when the true messiah comes, these false prophets will confess that they are not prophets and that they lied.
  • A few decades ago you would hear pastors preaching about verse 6 that says "And one will say to him, "What are these wounds between your hands?" And he shall say, "That I was smitten in the house of my friends." as a prophecy about Jesus. I am grateful to G-d that Christians have realize this passage is talking false prophets and they are shying away from using [misusing] this passage.
  • Verse 7 that Mark quotes is about these same false prophets and shepherds who will be struck with the sword and all their disciples will be scattered.
  • Christians will have to explain away this cross reference because Mark makes Jesus say "for it is written" and there is no way to get out of this one for them.
