Did David prophecy that Jesus will ascend to heaven and give gifts to his believers? ~ Cross reference of Ephesians 4:8 to Psalm 68:19

Paul is trying to unit the Christians in Ephesus to love one another and live in peace. He then quotes Psalm 68 to say that Jesus gave his believers gifts when he ascended to heaven so they can use these gifts to spread the gospel to others.

Did David in Psalm 68 say that Jesus will ascend into heaven and give gifts to his followers?

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Ephesians 4:8 This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”

Psalm 68:19 You ascended on high, you took captives; you took gifts to be among men, and also rebellious ones for Yah God to dwell.
  • David in this Psalm is talking about G-d and not about the messiah. If you read verse 2 it is very clear. David starts off with how G-d is almighty and he will avenge himself on the wicked who will be scattered while the righteous will praise G-d.
  • You can see that from verses 8 through to verse 18 you will see that David is describing how G-d protected Israel when they went through the wilderness.
  • Rabbis believe verse 18 is a reference to how G-d was accompanied by 10,000 angels when G-d's glory came down to the earth to give Israel the Torah.
    • Psalm 68:18 God's chariot is twice ten thousand times thousands of angels. The Lord was among them at Sinai in His holiness.
  • The very next verse is quoted by Paul that it was Jesus who ascended to heaven when there is no mention of Messiah or anyone other than the ONE TRUE G-D of the universe.
    • Psalm 68:19 You ascended on high, you took captives; you took gifts to be among men, and also rebellious ones for Yah God to dwell.
  • Also if you read this passage it talks about G-d taking gifts from people even the rebellious ones.
  • So Paul cross referencing this passage does not make sense.
