Did Hagar's descendants receive the Torah at mount Saini? ~ Cross reference of Galatians 4:27 to Isaiah 54:1, Galatians 4:30 to Genesis 21:10
Paul does midrash in Galatians 4 and says that Hagar's descendants [from the slave woman] are like people under the law. While the children of Sarah [from the promise of G-d] are the children who have faith[I think in Jesus]
Paul claims he is giving a "figurative" illustration, but I say, even a midrash has rules, you cannot turn things on their head and try get what you want from the passage to propagate a lie. Commentaries say that Paul was talking about the region of mount Sanai belonged to Ishmael but that does not justify that Ishmael [child of a slave] got the law or was under the law.
The truth is descendants of Sarah are Israel and they are the ones who received the law at mount Sanai. Paul adds a twist that the children of Sarah are the descendants of the heavenly Jerusalem while descendants of Hagar are the children of the earthly Jerusalem.[not sure what this means]
Paul then in verse 30 says that god said to get rid of the child of bondwoman as he will not be part of the child of the promise. This is just taking the passage out of context to say that after Jesus came the law is done away with.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
Galatians 4:27 For it is written: “Be glad, barren woman, you who never bore a child; shout for joy and cry aloud, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.”
Galatians 4:30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”
Isaiah 54:1 "Sing you barren woman who has not borne; burst out into song and jubilate, you who have not experienced birth pangs, for the children of the desolate one are more than the children of the married woman," says the Lord.
Isaiah 54:1 "Sing you barren woman who has not borne; burst out into song and jubilate, you who have not experienced birth pangs, for the children of the desolate one are more than the children of the married woman," says the Lord.
Genesis 21:10 And Sarah said to Abraham, "Drive out this handmaid and her son, for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son, with Isaac."
Isaiah 54
- Paul quotes Isaiah 54 to justify that the children of promise [I think this refers to Christians] that they will be more than the children of the slave woman. Ironically this is true as Christians are the largest religion in the world today. But is that what Isaiah is saying?
- Isaiah in this chapter is talking about how G-d will bless his people Israel and they will multiply and grow in the land that G-d has given them.
- Isaiah 54:5 For your Master is your Maker, the Lord of Hosts is His name, and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, shall be called the God of all the earth.
- The context of Genesis 21 is that Sarah wants Hagar and Ishmael to be sent away as Isaac is the promised heir of Abraham's promise.
- Midrash or not, the truth is Isaac is the promise and he is the one who got the law and as per Paul Israel is the slave of the law. Again this is Paul's point of view and does not agree with passages were Israel and G-d say the law is a blessing.
- Don't want to waste anymore ink on this pathetic lie.
