Did god anoint Jesus with the oil of love? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 1:9 to Psalm 45:7

Hebrews 1:9 asserts that god saw how Jesus loved righteousness and hated wickedness that he anointed Jesus with the oil of love. Kind of trivial don't you think that the son of god needs this anointing. Even more so for Christians who believe Jesus is god in flesh.

Let us see what Psalm 45 is all about and see if David is talking about Jesus.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

Psalm 45:7 Your throne, O judge, [will exist] forever and ever; the sceptre of equity is the sceptre of your kingdom. 8 You loved righteousness and you hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with oil of joy from among your peers.

  • Hebrews quoting Psalm 45 to say that god anointed Jesus with the oil of love does not make sense for several reasons. If you read this Psalm from beginning in context you will see that it is talking either about David or Solomon.
  • This Psalm is written by the sons of Korah about a King who was ruling Israel at that time. Jesus never ruled or had a throne.
    • Psalm 45:7 Your throne, O judge, [will exist] forever and ever; the scepter of equity is the scepter of your kingdom. 12 And the King shall desire your beauty, for He is your Lord, and prostrate yourself to Him.
  • Below passage indicates this could be about Solomon because we see that during his time, his fame was so great that kings and queens visited him to see his wisdom
    • Psalm 45:10 The daughters of kings will visit you; the queen will stand at your right [bedecked] with golden jewelry from Ophir.
  • Below passage talks about how the kind will marry princes of other kingdoms. Solomon any day is a more appropriate candidate. Remember he has 1000 wives
    • Psalm 45:12 And the King shall desire your beauty, for He is your Lord, and prostrate yourself to Him.
  • Below passage is talking about the king's daughter. Jesus was not married.
    • Psalm 45:14 All honor [awaits] the King's daughter who is within; her raiment is superior to settings of gold.
