Did god say that anyone who does not believe in Jesus will not enter place of rest? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 3:11 to Psalm 95:7

Hebrews 3 focusses on projecting Jesus as a priest. This is not in line with what Tanakh says about the messiah. Tanakh says that Jesus should be a descendant of David[Judah]. He should rule and bring peace.

Could this is be an embellishment to support the death of Jesus, Christians came up with an approach that first time he will wipe out sin and and the next time he will do the expected messiah role.

While the Christian belief is that Jesus is the sacrificial lamb, here for some reason, Hebrews projects Jesus as the priest as well to.

So I guess the belief is that Jesus is the high priest who offered himself as a sacrifice.

This cross reference is about how unbelief in Jesus is going to make people stand condemned. The cross reference from Psalm 95 I guess is to show that David prophesied about how the Jews will stand condemned because of their unbelief.

Let us read Psalm 95 in context and see if this is true.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Hebrews 3:11 So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

Psalm 95:7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the flocks of His hand, today, if you hearken to His voice. 8 Do not harden your heart as [in] Meribah, as [on] the day of Massah in the desert. 9 When your ancestors tested Me; they tried Me, even though they had seen My work. 10 Forty years I quarreled with a generation, and I said, "They are a people of erring hearts and they did not know My ways." 11 For which reason I swore in My wrath, that they would not enter My resting place.

I think Hebrews has used this passage from Psalm 95 out of context. If you read this Psalm you will see that David is reflecting on what happed to Israel after they came out of Egypt and how G-d took care of them and through the desert. This is about Israel not listening to G-d and not the messiah.

  • If you read verses 1 to 7 David is praising G-d for his kindness to Israel and also how awesome G-d is. He praises G-d for his wisdom in the creation of the universe.
    • Psalm 95:1 Come, let us sing praises to the Lord; let us shout to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us greet His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout to Him with songs. 3 For the Lord is a great God and a great King over all divine powers. 4 In Whose hand are the depths of the earth, and the heights of the mountains are His. 5 For the sea is His, He made it, and His hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us prostrate ourselves and bow; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
  • In verse 7 David asks his generation to be obedient to G-d so they can be protected as sheep under the shepherding of G-d.
    • Psalm 95:7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the flocks of His hand, today, if you hearken to His voice.
  • In the next 4 passages David recalls how their ancestors rebelled against G-d in the desert and how G-d punished them by not allowing them to come into the promised land of Cannan.
    • Psalm 95:8 Do not harden your heart as [in] Meribah, as [on] the day of Massah in the desert. 9 When your ancestors tested Me; they tried Me, even though they had seen My work. 10 Forty years I quarreled with a generation, and I said, "They are a people of erring hearts and they did not know My ways." 11 For which reason I swore in My wrath, that they would not enter My resting place.
  • Hebrews uses verse 11 to say that it was prophesied that anyone who does not believe in Jesus will not enter the resting place[I believe they will not get to heaven] when the passage in Psalm is about the generation that never entered the promised land and for 40 years G-d made them move in the desert till the generation died.
  • This is not a prophecy but a historical event
