Did Isaiah and Habakkuk prophesy that Jesus would return soon after his ascension to heaven? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 10:36 to Isaiah 26:20, Habakkuk 2:3

Hebrews encourages the Christians that they need to stay strong and persevere in the faith of Jesus. He also says that very soon Jesus will return [to take them to heaven I guess].

To establish this faith, he cross references Isaiah 26 & Habakkuk 2. Let us see if Jesus's return from heaven was prophesied by Isaiah & Habakkuk.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Hebrews 10:36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised 37 For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.” 38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

Isaiah 26:20 Go, My people, come into your chambers and close your door about you; hide for but a moment, until the wrath passes.

Habakkuk 2:3 For there shall be another vision for the appointed time; and He shall speak of the end, and it shall not fail; though it tarry, wait for it, for it shall surely come; it shall not delay. 4 Behold, it is puffed up-his soul is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.

Hebrews is saying that Jesus will soon return. Till then the people should persevere and stay in the faith. This is quite nice, but can he find support from Tanakh that Christians should stay in the faith and Jesus will return soon and bless them with eternity?

Isaiah 26
  • Isaiah 26 is about Judah returning to G-d and G-d blessing them. There is nothing about a resurrected messiah returning from heaven. Also what bothers me is that this chapter is all about the ONE TRUE G-d of the universe. How can the Greek text see Jesus in these passages?
  • Isaiah 26:1 On that day, this song shall be sung in the land of Judah: "The city that was our strength-salvation shall He place [for] walls and a bulwark. 2 Open the gates, so that a righteous nation, awaiting the realization [of God's promise], may enter.  - This passage is talking about how Judah will will rejoice in G-d for his help.
  • Isaiah 26:5 For He humbled the inhabitants of the high places, the fortified city; He brings it low, he brings it low even to the earth, he makes it reach even to the dust. 6 A foot shall trample it, the feet of a poor man, the soles of the impoverished. - Here Isaiah is talking about how G-d has humbled the nations that were arrogant and idolators.
  • Isaiah 26:12 O Lord, You shall prepare peace for us, for also the recompense for all our deeds have You dealt to us. 13 O Lord, our God, masters other than You have possessed us. Only concerning You will we mention Your name. - Isaiah here is talking about how Judah has trusted and been faithful to G-d.
  • Isaiah 26:17 As a pregnant woman comes near to give birth, she shudders, she screams in her pangs, so were we because of You, O Lord. 18 We conceived, we shuddered, as though we bore wind; we wreak no salvations [in] the land, neither do the inhabitants of the world fall. 19 May Your dead live, 'My corpses shall rise; awaken and sing, you who dwell in the dust, for a dew of lights is your dew, and [to the] earth You shall cast the slackers. 20 Go, My people, come into your chambers and close your door about you; hide for but a moment, until the wrath passes. 21 For behold the Lord comes forth from His place to visit the iniquity of the dweller of the land upon him: and the land shall reveal its blood and it shall no longer conceal its slain ones. - Here Isaiah is comparing Judah to a woman delivering a child and says that in just a little while G-d will restore Judah. He talks about how G-d will punish the wicked people. There is nothing here about the messiah.
Habakkuk
  • Habakkuk asked G-d in chapter 1 why wicked people are thriving and the just are struggling. G-d responds in Chapter 2 that soon the puffed up and arrogant people will soon be destroyed and  the just will live.
  • Habakkuk says the just will love by their faith[in G-d] while the wicked will be destroyed. Here too there is no mention of a messiah and his return.
  • Habakkuk 2:7 Will not those who bite you arise suddenly, and those who startle you awaken? And you shall become plunder for them.
