Did Isaiah Prophecy about god's salvation through Jesus? ~ Cross reference of 2 Corinthians 6:2 to Isaiah 49:8

Paul cross references Isaiah 49:8 to say that the god has provided salvation to man through the blood of Jesus and that this was prophesied by Isaiah.. His claim is that the Christian gospel of faith in Jesus is what Isaiah is talking about. In fact Paul does not even quote the full verse. He takes the portion that supports his purpose and builds this lie.

Kind of sad, as if you read Isaiah 49 all it is talking about is G-d providing help to Israel to return to their land. In fact at this time, the exile did not yet happen to the four corners of the globe. There is nothing about saving from sin or Jesus in all of the chapter.

A consistent reading the words Save, Salvation, Savior all mean rescuing people from political or physical danger in Tanakh. The Greek text always uses these words to say that sin is wiped out, people will go to heaven, people will live for eternity.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

2 Corinthians 6:2 For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

Isaiah 49:8 So said the Lord, "In a time of favor I answered you, and on a day of salvation I helped you; and I will watch you, and I will make you for a people of a covenant, to establish a land, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages.

  • Paul uses the first half of Isaiah 49:8 to prove that Jesus is the salvation that Isaiah prophesied about. If you read the second half it says "and I will watch you, and I will make you for a people of a covenant, to establish a land, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages"
  • If you see some of the passages below, you will see the salvation that G-d is talking about is physical danger that Israel will face and how he is going to save them from the danger.
  • If you see the below verse, it is clearly talking about Israel being ingathered from their exile.
    • Isaiah 49:6 And He said, "It is too light for you to be My servant, to establish the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the besieged of Israel, but I will make you a light of nations, so that My salvation shall be until the end of the earth."
  • If you read the below verse you will see that it is talking about Israel being despised by the gentiles. You will also see that G-d says these nations will submit to G-d when G-d restores Israel. How can this apply to believers of Jesus who have been the tormentors of Jews.
    • Isaiah 49:7 So said the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, about him who is despised of men, about him whom the nation abhors, about a slave of rulers, "Kings shall see and rise, princes, and they shall prostrate themselves, for the sake of the Lord Who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, and He chose you."
  • If you read the below verse, there is no doubt what the outcome of G-d's salvation is. There is nothing about Jesus and faith in him wiping out peoples sins.
    • Isaiah 49:10 They shall neither hunger nor thirst, nor shall the heat and the sun smite them, for He Who has mercy on them shall lead them, and by the springs of water He shall guide them
  • Clear as day passage that shows what this salvation will result in. Isaiah is clearly saying that G-d is going to console his people not gentiles believing in Jesus.
    • Isaiah 49:12 Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Sinim. 13 Sing, O heavens, and rejoice, O earth, and mountains burst out in song, for the Lord has consoled His people, and He shall have mercy on His poor.
