Does obeying the law guarantee hell? ~ Cross reference of Romans 11:7-10 to Deuteronomy 29:3, Isaiah 29:10, Psalm 69:23
Paul after "establishing" that god always keeps a remnant of people for himself through "grace" says that the elect who could keep the law were saved but the rest who could not keep the law perished. He then explains that god hardened the hearts of the rest of Jews as prophesied by Moses, David and Isaiah.
Let us see these 3 cross references in context and see if god intended that the majority of Jews were not supposed to believe in Jesus.
What I am not sure of is why does god send Jesus to save Jews and then harden their hearts so they cannot accept Jesus.
This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.
My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
Romans 11:7 What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened, 8 as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.”[c]
Romans 11:9 And David says: “May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. 10 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.”[d]
Deuteronomy 29:1 And Moses called all of Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the Lord did before your very eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, to all his servants, and to all his land; 2 the great trials which your very eyes beheld and those great signs and wonders. 3 Yet until this day, the Lord has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see and ears to hear. 4 I led you through the desert for forty years [during which time] your garments did not wear out from upon you, nor did your shoes wear out from upon your feet.

- If you read the passage that Paul quotes as a cross reference for Israel being blind and unable to see Jesus as the messiah, you will see that this passages is talking about the ONE TRUE G-D of the universe and not about the messiah.
- Moses is telling Israel that they witnessed all the miracles that G-d did in Egypt and how he rescued them from slavery. He then talks about how G-d led them through the dessert and fed them and protected them. Their clothes did not wear out or their feet did not swell and also how G-d gave victory over kingdom of Heshbon and Bashan.
- Then Moses says, but until now G-d has not given each of you the understanding of G-d's loving-kindnesses but only the Moses, Aaron, Joshua & 70 leaders had the opportunity to see G-d's glory on mount Sanai [Remember how the people get sacred and ask Moses to talk to G-d and tell them else they were scared they will die]. Moses then in verse 8-11 says, now all of you [every single person] will re-affirm the covenant with G-d and obey his laws.
- Paul twists this verse to say that G-d closed their mind, eyes and ears so they cannot see Jesus. Kind of sad don't you think?
- Deuteronomy 29:8 And you shall observe the words of this covenant and fulfill them, in order that you will succeed in all that you do. 9 You are all standing this day before the Lord, your God the leaders of your tribes, your elders and your officers, every man of Israel, 10 your young children, your women, and your convert who is within your camp both your woodcutters and your water drawers, 11 that you may enter the covenant of the Lord, your God, and His oath, which the Lord, your God, is making with you this day, 12 in order to establish you this day as His people, and that He will be your God, as He spoke to you, and as He swore to your forefathers to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 13 But not only with you am I making this covenant and this oath, 14 but with those standing here with us today before the Lord, our God, and [also] with those who are not here with us, this day.
- The context of Isaiah 29 is during the time of King Hezekiah before the attack by Sennacherib. G-d is saying that Israel has turned to complacency and they do not worship G-d with all their heart and soul.
- Isaiah 29:13 And the Lord said: "Because this people has come near; with their mouth and with their lips they honor Me, but their heart they draw far away from Me, and their fear of Me has become a command of people, which has been taught.
- G-d says he will send enemies to attack Jerusalem and use these wicked nations to wake up the people from their self numb state. This passage is talking about wicked people who arrogantly deny G-d. G-d says because they think that G-d does not see their folly, he will make them continue in their ignorance and will not send wise leaders to repent. He will use the enemy to open their eyes.
- Isaiah 29:14 Therefore, I will continue to perform obscurity to this people, obscurity upon obscurity, and the wisdom of his wise men shall be lost, and the understanding of his geniuses shall be hidden.
- From verse 17 to 24 you see that G-d promises that he will open their eyes and they will turn to G-d and worship G-d with all their heart and soul.
- This is a historical event that happened when Sennacherib[Assyria] attacked Judah and 185,000 soldiers of Assyria were killed by an angel. This has nothing to do with G-d hardening the heart of the people so he can destroy them. All it is saying is that G-d let them be in their hardened state of heart and used the enemies to turn them back to himself.
- I think is one of the most desperate cross reference Paul makes to say that G-d shut the eyes of the Jews so they cannot see Jesus. In fact the Gospels quote this very Psalm to show that David prophesied about Jesus's crucifixion. Remember the below verses? Kind of sad that Paul thinks this Psalm is about Jews
- Psalm 69:9 I was strange to my brothers, and alien to the sons of my mother.
- Psalm 69:10 For the envy of Your house has consumed me, and the humiliations of those who blaspheme You have fallen upon me.
- Psalm 69:22 They put gall into my food and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
- All that said, there is no mystery here. David is talking about his enemies and Asking G-d to help him from them.
- Psalm 69:5 Those who hate me for nothing are more numerous than the hairs of my head; mighty are those who would cut me off, who are my enemies because of lies; what I did not steal, I will then return.
- The rest of the Psalm is about David's anguish and then the later part is about David asking G-d to hurt his enemies.
- According to Paul David was talking about Israel who could not see Jesus. Why would people of Israel be David's enemies. They loved him and he ruled for 40 Years.
- So once again Paul lies to "do what ever it takes to win some more souls for Jesus"
