What happened to the excess manna? ~ Cross reference of 2 Corinthians 8:15 to Exodus 16:18

Paul in this chapter is on the mission to collect funds[material] to help the poor in Jerusalem church. There are historical records of a draught during the time of Paul in Israel.

His ask from the church in Corinth is that they give generously for the cause. He cross references the event that happened in the wilderness with Israel, where G-d fed Israel with manna from heaven. Each person picked up as much as they needed.

There is not much of theology here so don't have much to share.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

2 Corinthians 8:15 as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.”

Exodus 16:18 And they measured [it] with an omer, and whoever gathered much did not have more, and whoever gathered little did not have less; each one according to his eating capacity, they gathered.
  • G-d fed Israel for 40 years with manna from heaven and the instruction given was that each person should pick up one omer of manna and pick up no more than each person needs.
  • G-d also said on Friday, they can gather double the quantity so they can eat on Sabbath as on Sabbath, there will be no manna.
  • What is known is that some gathered more than they need on a weekday and they kept it aside for the next day. The excess they kept was spoilt.
  • What we also know is that the same excess they gathered on Friday and kept for Sabbath, did not spoil.
  • Paul saying that the one who gathers more did not have more is not completely true as the excess was spoilt.
  • So based on Exodus, the excess people have should have been lost / corrupt. Anyway, like I said there is no implication to the core belief of Christianity so will leave it here.
