Did god say he will shake earth and heaven on those who do not believe in Jesus? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 12:26-29 to Haggai 2:6, Deuteronomy 4:24
Hebrews 12 asserts that god will shake the earth and heaven against those who do not believe in Jesus. He quotes Haggai 2 and Deuteronomy 4 to say that if Israel did not believe the word of god that came down to the earth on mount Sanai, and god shook the earth, how much more terrifying it will be for the people who do not believe in Jesus.
Let us see if the claim that god will shake the earth and heavens against those who do not believe in Jesus is prophesied in Haggai & Deuteronomy.

Hebrews 12:26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens
Hebrews 12:29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Haggai 2:6 For so said the Lord of Hosts: [There will rise] another one, and I will shake up the heaven and the earth and the sea and the dry land [for] a little while.
Deuteronomy 4:24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a zealous God.

- Haggai 2 is about rebuilding of the second temple after the people came back from 70 years if exile to Babylon.
- Many of the people who were alive when Solomon's temple was standing, saw how small and inferior this temple was and they were weeping for loss of holy temple.
- In the below passage G-d is asking who among the people saw Solomon's temple and are comparing the 2nd temple to Solomon's temple and is asking do you think this temple is inferior?
- Haggai 2:3 Who among you is left, who saw this house in its former glory? And as you see it now, is it not as nothing in your eyes?
- In this passage G-d is encouraging Zerubbabel the governor and Joshua the priest and the builders to be strong and continue to the work.
- Haggai 2:4 And now, be strong, Zerubbabel, says the Lord; and be strong, Joshua the son of Jehozadak the High Priest; and be strong, all the people of the land, says the Lord. And (for I am with you, says the Lord of Hosts) do
- In the below passages G-d says he will shake up the earth and heavens and seas and gentile nations will bring the treasures of the temple back to Israel and this temple in no way will be less that the 1st temple.
- Haggai 2:6 For so said the Lord of Hosts: [There will rise] another one, and I will shake up the heaven and the earth and the sea and the dry land [for] a little while. 7 And I will shake up all the nations, and they shall come [with] the precious things of all the nations. And I will fill this House with glory, said the Lord of Hosts. 8 The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of Hosts. 9 The glory of this last House shall be greater than the first one, said the Lord of Hosts. And in this place I will grant peace, says the Lord of Hosts.
- In all of this where is anything about Jesus, He going to heaven and god telling people to believe in Jesus. I just fail to see any connection to what Hebrews is trying to say.
- On the contrary if you red Ezra 7 in context you will see that Artaxerxes does exactly what G-d has said in Haggai 2:6-9
- Ezra 7:12 "Artaxerxes, king of the kings, to Ezra the priest, the scholar who has mastered the Book of the Law of the God of heaven, and Ke'eneth. 13 An order is issued by me that whoever of my kingdom of the people of Israel, its priests and Levites, who volunteers to go to Jerusalem with you, may go. 14 Because of this, before the king and his seven advisors you are sent to search out Judea and Jerusalem according to the law of your God, which is in your hand. 15 And to bring silver and gold that the king and his advisors donated to the God of Israel, Whose habitation is in Jerusalem. 16 And all the silver and gold that you will find in the entire province of Babylon, with the donation of the people and the priests, which they are donating to the House of their God, which is in Jerusalem. 17 Because of this, you shall quickly purchase with this money bulls, rams, lambs, and their meal-offerings, and their libations, and offer them up on the altar of the House of your God, which is in Jerusalem. 18 And what pleases you and your brethren to do with the rest of the silver and gold, as your God wishes, you shall do. 19 And the vessels that are given to you for the service of the House of your God, give in their entirety before the God [in] Jerusalem. 20 And the rest of the necessities of the House of your God, which will fall to you to give, you shall give from the royal treasury. 21 And from me-I, King Artaxerxes is issued forth an edict to all the treasurers who are on the other side of the river, that whatever Ezra, the priest, the scholar of the Law of the God of heaven, requests of you shall be done quickly. 22 Until a hundred talents of silver, and until a hundred kors of wheat, and until a hundred baths of wine, and until a hundred baths of oil, and salt, [whose amount] is not written. 23 Whatever is with the authorization of the God of heaven shall be done with a seal for the House of the God of heaven, for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons? 24 And we are making known to you that [as regards] all the priests, and the Levites, the musicians, the gatekeepers, the Nethinites, and those who serve in this House of God-no one should be empowered to levy the king's due, the head tax, or the meal tax upon them. 25 And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God, which is in your hand, appoint judges and magistrates who will judge all the people beyond the river, all who know the laws of your God, and whoever does not know, you shall teach them. 26 And whoever does not fulfill the law of your God and the law of the king promptly-judgment shall be inflicted upon him; whether to be executed, uprooted, fined, or tortured." 27 Blessed be the Lord, the God of our forefathers, Who put such a thought into the king's heart, to glorify the House of the Lord, which is in Jerusalem. 28 And upon me He extended kindness before the king and his advisers, and to all the mighty officers of the king, and I strengthened myself according to the hand of the Lord my God upon me, and I gathered from Israel chiefs to go up with me.
- This entire chapter is about Moses telling Israel to obey G-d's laws and walk in his paths.
- Kind of sad that the passage that Hebrews quotes is about worshipping anyone else as god will lead to severe punishment because G-d is a zealous G-d. Moses is saying here that if Israel goes after other gods, G-d will destroy.
- Deuteronomy 4:23 Beware, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image, the likeness of anything, which the Lord your God has forbidden you. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a zealous God.
