Did Zechariah prophesy about the two witnesses? ~ Cross reference of Revelation 11:4 to Zechariah 4:3, 11, 14

Revelation 11 hijacks the 2 olive trees to be the 2 witnesses that preach repentance for 1,260 days and then Jesus will come and destroy all the non-believers is a belief of Christians. Quoting Zechariah to support this is not right though.

Read to see why.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Revelation 11:4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”

Zechariah. 4:3 And [there were] two olive trees near it; one on the right of the bowl, and one on its left.

Zechariah 4:11 And I raised my voice and said to him, "What are these two olive trees on the right of the candelabrum and on its left?"

Zechariah 4:14 And he said, "These are the two anointed ones who stand before the Lord of all the earth."
  • If you read Zechariah 3 & 4 in context you will see that it is talking about Joshua the priest and Zerubbabel the governor.
  • This is an event that happened after the Israelites returned from Babylon and started building the 2nd temple.
  • If you read the below passages you will see that the 2 olive trees that the angel is telling Zechariah is about Zerubbabel and Joshua.
    • Zechariah 4:5 And the angel who spoke with me answered, and he said to me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord." 6 And he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying: 'Not by military force and not by physical strength, but by My spirit,' says the Lord of Hosts. 7 Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you sink to a plain! He will bring out the stone of the main architect, with shouts of grace, grace to it."
  • Zerubbabel was from the cursed line of Jechoiachin. His grandson was made a signet governor for Israel during the period when they returned from Babylon. He was the architect for the 2nd temple.
    • Zechariah 4:9 Zerubbabel's hands founded this house, and his hands shall complete [it], and you shall know that the Lord of Hosts sent me to you.
  • The second person that the angel is talking about is the high priest Joshua. We find details about the role of Joshua during this time in the previous chapter.
    • Zechariah 2:1 And He showed me Joshua, the High Priest, standing before the angel of the Lord. And Satan was standing on his right, to accuse him. 7 So said the Lord of Hosts: If you walk in My ways, and if you keep My charge, you, too, shall judge My house, and you, too, shall guard My courtyards, and I will give you free access among these who stand by.
