Was Paul confused about the meaning of Seed? ~ Cross reference of Galatians 3:16 to Genesis 12:7, Genesis 13:15, Genesis 24:7

Paul was the main "Apostle" of Jesus who preached Christianity to the gentiles. Most of the theology is found in the letters in the new testament and scholars believe 7 of these letters were written by Paul himself and the rest were probably written by his followers / students.

So you can imagine how critical his letters are in defining what a Christian needs to believe about the faith.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you to read at least the whole chapter of Tanakh in context to understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Some of the issues I have with his teachings are
  • He contradicts himself
  • He contradicts Jesus's teachings.
  • He taught there is no need to keep the Torah
  • Asserts his theology is directly from the "Heavenly Jesus"
  • He has to keep re-assuring everyone that he is not lying
  • He would do "whatever it takes" to win more souls to Jesus ...
That said I will focus on the topic for this post. If Paul was a "Pharisee of a Pharisee" and "student of Gamaliel" how could he get the Hebrew word "seed" wrong? Was it his philosophy of "do what it takes" even if it means to deceive people to prove Jesus is whatever he decides Jesus should be?

The deeper question I have is, can Paul's teachings be trusted because he never met Jesus, he taught "his gospel" that is revealed by the heavenly Jesus, he contradicted the core teachings of the "earthly Jesus".

In this case I think he "did whatever it takes" to make Jesus the one through who the world will be blessed.

Galatians 3:16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.

Genesis 12:7 And the Lord appeared to Abram, and He said, "To your seed I will give this land," and there he built an altar to the Lord, Who had appeared to him.

Genesis 13:15 For all the land that you see I will give to you and to your seed to eternity Genesis 24:7 The Lord, God of the heavens, Who took me from my father's house and from the land of my birth, and Who spoke about me, and Who swore to me, saying, 'To your seed will I give this land' He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

Below I have listed the places where G-d promises Abram / Abraham that G-d will bless him and the word "seed" appears.

Genesis 22:17 That I will surely bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand that is on the seashore, and your seed will inherit the cities of their enemies. 18 And through your seed shall be blessed all the nations of the world, because you hearkened to My voice."

Genesis 12:7
And the Lord appeared to Abram, and He said, "To your seed I will give this land," and there he built an altar to the Lord, Who had appeared to him.

Genesis 13:15 For all the land that you see I will give to you and to your seed to eternity. 16 And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth, so that if a man will be able to count the dust of the earth, so will your seed be counted.

Genesis 15:5 And He took him outside, and He said, "Please look heavenward and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So will be your seed."

Genesis 17:6 And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings will emerge from you. 7 And I will establish My covenant between Me and between you and between your seed after you throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant, to be to you for a God and to your seed after you. 8 And I will give you and your seed after you the land of your sojourning, the entire land of Canaan for an everlasting possession, and I will be to them for a God."

Below are a few points I gathered when seeking THE truth. You decide if what Paul said is true.
  • The word seed appears 100+ times in Tanakh & every time is refers to offspring or children or descendants [plural]
  • G-d appears to Abram/Abraham 5 times and makes the promise that
    • He will become a great nation [4 times]
    • He will give the land of Cannan to his descendants [4 times]
    • Through him / his seed nations will be blessed [2 times]
  • The same promise is made to Isaac and Jacob subsequently.
  • For some reason Paul uses a very different view that Seed = One person = Jesus
  • How can the same word "seed" in all the other passages mean many but just in this one passage mean one person = Jesus?
  • There are 4 passages in Tanakh that use the word "seeds" and you can see they are not about descendants, children or progeny. You get the point right?
    • Leviticus 11:37 If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean.
    • Numbers 6:4 As long as they remain under their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.
    • Isaiah 61:11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.
    • Joel 1:17 The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up.
