Did Jesus have to come out of Egypt? - Cross reference of Matthew 2:18 to Hosea 11:1
Did Matthew make Jesus go all the way to Egypt creating a fictitious murder attempt by Herod so that a prophecy by Hosea would be fulfilled. By the way I already covered this in another post that shows why this was never prophesied. Click to read
Did he then make Jesus go to Nazareth so that another Prophecy that "Jesus will be called a Nazarene" is fulfilled. Incidentally this prophecy is no where in Tanakh.
When I get to Luke I will post how Luke makes Joseph go from Nazareth to Bethlehem so Jesus can be born in Bethlehem with a fictitious census by Caesar Augustus and then brings him back to Nazareth so that Jesus can fulfill the prophecy[By Matthew] that "He will be called a Nazarene" which by the way does not exist.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.
My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
Matthew 2:15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c]
Hosea 11:1 For, when Israel was young, I loved him, and from Egypt I called My son. 2 The more they called to them, the more they went away from them; to the baalim they would slaughter sacrifices, and to the graven images they would burn incense.
Hosea 11:1 For, when Israel was young, I loved him, and from Egypt I called My son. 2 The more they called to them, the more they went away from them; to the baalim they would slaughter sacrifices, and to the graven images they would burn incense.
Consider the below points to see if this verse in Hosea 11 is a prophecy about Jesus coming out from Egypt.
- Matthew takes a part of the verse and uses to prove that Hosea is talking about Jesus coming out of Egypt.
- When you read Hosea 11:1 in context you see that G-d is saying through Hosea that when Israel was young he loved him and because he loved Israel G-d brought them out of Egypt.
- G-d is stating a historical fact that happened in Exodus.
- I think Christians use some kind of foreshadowing theory to say that G-d showed us through this event that one day are 3700 years Jesus will also come out of Egypt.
- This is called Midrashic interpretation and if one goes by this you can make any text say what you want it to say.
- That said, if you see Hosea 11:2 it says the ones that came out of Egypt [which in context is Israel] went after Baal and worshiped and burnt incense to graven images.
- I believe G-d's word for us should not be treated like this where you take portions that support your faith and leave out the portions that don't align. This could be called "Then man said let us create god in our own image"
- How can this apply to Jesus? Jesus always worshiped his ONE TRUE G-d of the universe right?
