To obey the law or practice traditions ~ Cross reference of Mark 7:10 to Exodus 20:12
In Mark 7 "the Pharisees" get a beating from Jesus for asking why Jesus's disciples do not wash their hands before eating. They were right in asking it as one can get infections by eating with dirty hands.
Jesus first quotes Isaiah 29 to say that Isaiah prophesied that 700 years later the Pharisees will give more importance to traditions than to the laws of G-d.
He then goes onto to use Exodus 20:12 about how they were not obeying the law to honor parents by using the excuse of [Corban] vows to take precedence over the law.
He then sums it up all up by saying that what goes in does not defile a person but what comes out from the heart does.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.
My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
Mark 7:10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d] and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e] 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, in order that your days be lengthened on the land that the Lord, your God, is giving you.
Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor your father and your mother as the Lord your God commanded you, in order that your days be lengthened, and that it may go well with you on the land that the Lord, your God, is giving you.
Exodus 21:17 And one who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
Leviticus 20:9 For any man who curses his father or his mother shall be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon himself.
- Corban is a vow that a person makes to G-d out of joy or a need that he has. He must fulfill the vow. This is not a tradition.
- Numbers 30:2 When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.
- In Torah you will find that there are 77 places where G-d talks about the various types of vows and how they need to be fulfilled.
- Jesus's assertion that sons were pledging to G-d and using that as an excuse to tell their parents they cannot take care of them is a bit of an exaggeration as
- People knew that they have to fulfill the vows they make else G-d will punish them.
- Why would somebody make a vow which they cannot fulfill. Even in such cases, Torah talks about how such situations need to be dealt with.
- The vow is between the person and G-d and how can Jesus say that the Pharisees were using "tradition" to prevent a person from taking care of his parents.
- Even if this was happening, I think the vow to G-d comes first.
- It is not right on the part of the person not to make provisions to take care of his parents before making the vow to G-d.
