Are Christians the temple of god? ~ Cross reference of 2 Corinthians 6:16 to Leviticus 26:12, Jeremiah 32:38, Ezekiel 37:27

Paul does not disappoint me here as well. All he does is take Israel out and inserts himself and the Christians into these passages from Tanakh. Paul claims that Christians are the temple of god and they should not associate themselves with non-believers or evil people. I would agree with him, but then he cross references Tanakh to assert that Christians being the temple of god is clearly stated in Tanakh.

Paul also changes the word in Leviticus 26:12 from "your G-d" to "their god" to probably add Christians into this verse. Kind of sad don't you think?

Let us review the cross referenced passages to see if there is anything that indicates that the Christians are the temple of god.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Leviticus 26:12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.

Jeremiah 32:38 And they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel 37:27 And My dwelling place shall be over them, and I will be to them for a God, and they shall be to Me as a people.

Isaiah 52:11 Turn away, turn away, get out of there, touch no unclean one; get out of its midst, purify yourselves, you who bear the Lord's vessels.;

Ezekiel 20:34 And I shall take you out of the peoples, and I shall gather you from the lands in which you were scattered, with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with poured out fury.

Ezekiel 20:41 With a pleasing savor I shall accept you when I take you out of the nations, and I shall gather you from the lands in which you were scattered, and I shall be hallowed through you before the eyes of the nations

2 Samuel 7:8 And now, so shall you say to My servant, to David; 'Thus says the Lord of Hosts. I took you from the sheep cote, from following the sheep, to be a leader over My people Israel.

2 Samuel 7:14 I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son; so that when he goes astray I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of Adam.

Leviticus 26
  • Leviticus 26 is about G-d promising how he will bless Israel if they obey his laws.
  • Paul trying to insert himself and the Christians into this passages is meaningless as he is the one that preached that with Jesus the law has come to an end. If you read the below passages, you will see that G-d says he will dwell among Israel ONLY if they obey his laws.
    • Leviticus 26:2 You shall keep My Sabbaths and fear My Sanctuary. I am the Lord. 3 If you follow My statutes and observe My commandments and perform them,
  • The next set of passages, G-d promises Israel that the will provide for them their needs [food, shelter, protection, prosperity ...] and not salvation or eternity as Christianity expects from believing in Jesus.
    • Leviticus 26:4 I will give your rains in their time, the Land will yield its produce, and the tree of the field will give forth its fruit. 5 Your threshing will last until the vintage, and the vintage will last until the sowing; you will eat your food to satiety, and you will live in security in your land. 6 And I will grant peace in the Land, and you will lie down with no one to frighten [you]; I will remove wild beasts from the Land, and no army will pass through your land; 7 You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you;
Jeremiah 32
  • Very sad Paul cherry picks verse 38 when the entire chapter is clear as day about Judah and how they were going to be exiled to Babylon.
    • Jeremiah 32:2 Then, the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the prison yard that was [in] the house of the king of Judah.
  • Will let you read the rest of the passages so you can see that there is nothing here about gentile Christians.
  • One interesting thing I would like to share is how G-d asks Jeremiah to buy a piece of land to show Israel that they will return for sure. If you read verse 25 you see Jeremiah asking G-d, why did you ask me to buy this land when the Army of Babylon right at the gates trying to take them into exile.
    • Jeremiah 32:25 And You said to me, O Lord God, 'Buy yourself the field for money and appoint witnesses!' Yet the city is given into the hand[s] of the Chaldeans!"
  • G-d gives the beautiful promise to Israel that they will one day come back and buy land and houses and live in this very land.
    • Jeremiah 32:43 And the field shall be bought in this land, which you say, "It is desolate without man or beast; it has been given into the hand[s] of the Chaldeans." 44 Men shall buy fields for money and inscribe deeds and sign [them] and appoint witnesses in the land of Benjamin and in the environs of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah and in the cities of the mountain and in the cities of the lowland and in the cities of the southland, for I will restore their captivity, says the Lord.
  • The passage that Paul misquotes to say god will live among the Christians is a lie as G-d clearly says he will bring Israel back from Babylon and he will be their G-d.
    • Jeremiah 32:37 Behold I will gather them from all the lands where I have driven them with My anger and with My wrath and with great fury, and I will restore them to this place and I will cause them to dwell safely. 38 And they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
Ezekiel 37
  • If you read Ezekiel 37, you will see that Israel is already in Babylon and G-d appears to Ezekiel to tell him that he will restore Israel. Not sure why Paul sees Christians in these passages. See the below verse that shows who these passages are about
    • Ezekiel 37:16 "And you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write upon it, 'For Judah and for the children of Israel his companions'; and take one stick and write upon it, 'For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.'
  • Below passage talks about how G-d will unite Israel[10 northern tribes] with Judah.
    • Ezekiel 37:19 Say to them, So says the Lord God: Behold I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim and the tribes of Israel his companions, and I will place them with him with the stick of Judah, and I will make them into one stick, and they shall become one in My hand.
  • G-d talks about how he will bring Israel back to their nation and have the messiah rule over them and they will obey G-d's laws. How can this be talking about Christians like Paul claims.
    • Ezekiel 37:24 And My servant David shall be king over them, and one shepherd shall be for them all, and they shall walk in My ordinances and observe My statutes and perform them.
Isaiah 52
  • Isaiah 52:1 clearly says this passage is about Israel. g-d says the gentiles will no longer come close to Israel.
    • Isaiah 52:1 Awaken, awaken, put on your strength, O Zion; put on the garments of your beauty, Jerusalem the Holy City, for no longer shall the uncircumcised or the unclean continue to enter you.
  • Another verse that shows this is about Israel and has nothing to do with gentile Christians
    • Isaiah 52:9 Burst out in song, sing together, O ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has consoled His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem.
  • If you read the below 2 verses you will see that G-d is asking Israel to turn away from the gentiles. Sad Paul uses this passage to say G-d is gathering the gentiles to himself.
    • Isaiah 52:10 The Lord has revealed His holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. 11 Turn away, turn away, get out of there, touch no unclean one; get out of its midst, purify yourselves, you who bear the Lord's vessels.
Ezekiel 20
  • The passage quoted is actually a big mistake as the passage itself shows it is about Israel and not gentile Christians.
    • Ezekiel 20:34 And I shall take you out of the peoples, and I shall gather you from the lands in which you were scattered, with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with poured out fury.
    • Ezekiel 20:41 With a pleasing savor I shall accept you when I take you out of the nations, and I shall gather you from the lands in which you were scattered, and I shall be hallowed through you before the eyes of the nations
2 Samuel 7
  • 2 Samuel is about David feeling bad that he lives in a good house while the Arc Of The Covenant is in a tent. Nathan tells him do what his heart says.
  • Then the word of G-d comes to Nathan and he conveys to David that G-d did not want David to build the temple as he bloodied his hands in wars.  G-d then promises David that his son Solomon will build the temple.
  • What has any of this go anything to do with gentile Christians?
    • 2 Samuel 7:12 When your days are finished and you shall lie with your forefathers, then I will raise up your seed that shall proceed from your body after you, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
