Did Jesus swallow up death? ~ Cross reference of 1 Corinthians 15:54 to Isaiah 25:8, Hosea 13:14

Paul seems to define the messianic age very differently from what Tanakh says. Tanakh is very clear that the messianic age is when G-d will restore the earth to how it was intended to be. No death, No sin, every human will worship the ONE TRUE G-D of the universe. This is the age when Israel will be raised above all the other gentile nations. Israel will be the priest of G-d for the rest of the world.

Paul states that flesh will perish and only the spirit will live for eternity with Jesus in heaven. Also I get a feeling that he was expecting rapture and Jesus to return before he dies. At least in the next few days, months or years.

1 Corinthians 15:51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

1 Corinthians 15:54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Isaiah 25:8 He has concealed death forever, and the Lord God shall wipe the tears off every face, and the shame of His people He shall remove from upon the entire earth, for the Lord has spoken.

Hosea 13:14 From the clutches of the grave I would ransom them, from death I would redeem them; I will be your words of death; I will decree the grave upon you. Remorse shall be hidden from My eyes.

Paul makes 2 cross references to support his claim, that very soon all believers in Jesus will turn from flesh to spirit and the dead will also raise [I think he means righteous who died before Jesus's time]

Isaiah 25
  • If you read Isaiah 25 in context you will see that Isaiah is talking about how powerful G-d is and how he has laid waste the cities of the tyrants and how the powerful fear him
    • Isaiah 25:2 For You made from a city a heap, a fortified city into a ruin; a palace of strangers, because of the city, it shall never be rebuilt. 3 Therefore, shall a strong people honor You; a city of tyrannical nations shall fear You.
  • Isaiah says that G-d is a help to the poor and protection for them from the tyrants
    • Isaiah 25:4 For You were a fortress for the poor, a fortress for the pauper in time of his distress, a shelter from pouring rain, a shade from heat, for the spirit of the tyrants is like a flood against a wall. 5 Like heat in the dry season, a multitude of strangers You shall humble; like heat with a thick cloud, so shall the downfall of the tyrants be sung.
  • Isaiah then talks about how G-d will restore Israel and make them higher than all the gentile nations.
    • Isaiah 25:6 And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples on this mount, a feast of fat things, a feast of dregs; fat things full of marrow, dregs well refined. 7 And He shall destroy on this mountain the face of the covering that covers all the peoples and the kingdom that rules over all the nations.
  • There is nothing about spiritual beings or people need to believe in the messiah. This entire chapter is about THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe.
  • In verse 8 that Paul quotes, Isaiah says G-d will remove death from the earth and Israel's shame will be removed [will be lifted up]
    • Isaiah 25:8 He has concealed death forever, and the Lord God shall wipe the tears off every face, and the shame of His people He shall remove from upon the entire earth, for the Lord has spoken.
Hosea 13
  • Paul quotes part of the passage when actually G-d says in this chapter that he will avenge himself for Ephraim's rebellion against G-d.
  • The whole chapter of Hosea 13 is about Ephraim [10 northern tribes] and has nothing to do with gentiles / Christians.
    • Hosea 13:1 When Ephraim spoke with trembling, he became exalted in Israel; when he became guilty through Baal, he died.
    • Hosea 13:9 You have destroyed yourself, O Israel, for [you have rebelled] against Me, against your help.
    • Hosea 13:12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid away. 13 Pangs of a woman in confinement shall come to him: he is an unwise son, for it is a time that he shall not stand in the birthstool of the children.
    • Hosea 13:15 For though he flourish among the marshes, an east wind shall come, a wind of the Lord, ascending from the desert, and his spring shall dry up, and his fountain shall be parched; he shall plunder the treasure of all coveted vessels.
