Did David prophesy about Kings raising against Jesus? ~ Cross reference of Acts 4:23 to Psalm 2:1

I am amazed that the Sanhedrin was spellbound when Peter showed them that Jesus was "the stone that the builders rejected". Click to see why Jesus was not the stone or the cornerstone.

Later passages say that the leaders were awestruck and could not deny the healing that Peter had done but they still did not want to accept Jesus as their lord and savior so they threatened Peter and his team and asked them not to continue preaching in the name of Jesus.

Peter refuses to stop preaching in the name of Jesus and they let him free.

Once they return, the disciples and their followers in unison assert that all this is happening as David prophesied in Psalm 2.

Let us see if David prophesied that Sanhedrin will oppose Jesus's followers.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Acts 4:23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one.[b]’[c]

Psalm 2:1 Why have nations gathered and [why do] kingdoms think vain things? 2 Kings of a land stand up, and nobles take counsel together against the Lord and against His anointed?

  • This Psalm most likely written about David. Though the author is not mentioned it makes sense based on the content of the Psalm.
  • All this Psalm is saying is that G-d has appointed his King on his holy mountain [Zion] and the gentile nations are trying to oppose him.
  • The writer says, G-d will destroy these nations and kings. That is what happened during David's reign. G-d placed David as the king of Israel and through him G-d defeated all the nations around him to the point that no king raised against David during his time and also through Solomon's reign.
  • In context this is a Psalm that applies to David when he was anointed as King, the philistines came to attack David. See below passage
  • 2 Samuel 5:17 And the Philistines heard that they anointed David as king over Israel, and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard [of it] and went down to the stronghold.
  • See how simple the truth is. If you now apply this to Jesus see how many issues come up.
    • Is Peter saying that Psalm 2 is not about Jesus alone but about himself and John since the chief priests challenged them.
    • There are no gentile nations involved in the Acts 4 event. It is a bunch of Jews who believed in Jesus vs a bunch of Jews who did not believe in Jesus.
    • Where are Kings, thrones & destruction happening in Acts 4?
    • All kings and priests are called anointed. How can this verse be used for referring to Jesus? If jesus is god why does he need to be made lord(master) and messiah.
