Was Enoch taken to heaven alive because he had faith? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 11:5 to Genesis 5:24

Hebrews quotes Able, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua & Rahab to assert that they were all blessed because of the faith they had in G-d. He then states that they did not receive the promise as they had to wait for the promise to be fulfilled only when Jesus came and all humanity that believed in Jesus are saved I guess.

One point that stands out in this chapter is in verse 26 where he says Moses refused to claim his place as the son of Pharaoh's daughter for the sake of Jesus who is greater than all the wealth of Egypt. Kind of bizarre how he came up with this.

Let us see if what Hebrew claims is right.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

Hebrews 11:18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”

Genesis. 5:24 And Enoch walked with God, and he was no longer, for God had taken him

Genesis. 21:12 And God said to Abraham, "Be not displeased concerning the lad and concerning your handmaid; whatever Sarah tells you, hearken to her voice, for in Isaac will be called your seed

  • Most of the people that Hebrews 11 calls out are righteous people who lived lives in line with the commands of G-d and not by faith as Hebrews claims.
  • Able is said to have brought an offering from the best of his sheep. This is an act of gratitude. There is no explicit passage that says, Able lived by faith. What is important is we need to have faith in G-d and it should show in our actions.
    • Genesis 4:4 And Abel he too brought of the firstborn of his flocks and of their fattest, and the Lord turned to Abel and to his offering.
  • Enoch is said to be a righteous person meaning he did not live like the rest of the people but walked in the way for G-d. Here too there is no mention that G-d took him alive. The Hebrew word says he was "no more" this could mean he died when he reached 365 years of age. Very similar to how we say about someone who dies "xyz is no more"
    • Genesis 5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he had begotten Methuselah, three hundred years, and he begot sons and daughters. 23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God, and he was no longer, for God had taken him.
  • Noah is a no brainer. Torah clearly says that he was a righteous person who did not do the evil that others were doing. There is no mention of Noah living by faith.
    • Genesis 6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah, Noah was a righteous man he was perfect in his generations; Noah walked with God.
  • Abraham walked in the ways of G-d and there are several passages that say G-d blessed him not because of his faith alone but the fact that Abraham lived according to the laws of G-d. See the below passages.
    • Genesis 17:9 And God said to Abraham, "And you shall keep My covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations.
    • Genesis 18:18 And Abraham will become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the world will be blessed in him. 19 For I have known him because he commands his sons and his household after him, that they should keep the way of the Lord to perform righteousness and justice, in order that the Lord bring upon Abraham that which He spoke concerning him."
    • Genesis 22:10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife, to slaughter his son. 11 And an angel of God called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham! Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 12 And he said, "Do not stretch forth your hand to the lad, nor do the slightest thing to him, for now I know that you are a God fearing man, and you did not withhold your son, your only one, from Me."
    • Genesis 22:17 That I will surely bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand that is on the seashore, and your descendants will inherit the cities of their enemies. 18 And through your children shall be blessed all the nations of the world, because you hearkened to My voice."
    • Genesis 26:4 And I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I will give your seed all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will bless themselves by your seed, 5 Because Abraham hearkened to My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My instructions."
    • Exodus 19:5 And now, if you obey Me and keep My covenant, you shall be to Me a treasure out of all peoples, for Mine is the entire earth. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of princes and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the children of Israel."
    • Deuteronomy 28:1 And it will be if you obey the Lord, your God, to observe to fulfill all His commandments which I command you this day, the Lord, your God, will place you supreme above all the nations of the earth.
  • If you read the event about Isaac and his blessings to his sons, Isaac wanted to bless Esau. Rebecca knew G-d's plan for Jacob and ensured he got his fathers blessings in place of Esau.
    • Genesis 27:10 And you shall bring [them] to your father that he may eat, in order that he bless you before his death." 11 And Jacob said to Rebecca his mother, "Behold, my brother Esau is a hairy man, whereas I am a smooth man. 12 Perhaps my father will touch me, and I will appear to him as a deceiver, and I will bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing." 13 And his mother said to him, "On me is your curse, my son. Only hearken to my voice and go, take [them] for me."
  • The rest of the people, Jacob to Rahab all had a reason to believe in the promise of G-d and they acted on the trust that G-d would bless them. Jacob was close to G-d and saw his blessings time and again. Rahab saw Israel defeat Sihon & Og and knew Israel will take Jerico and so had faith in G-d supporting Israel.
  • Faith in things you don't know about can be dangerous especially when it can lead to a blindness from the ONE TRUE G-d of the universe.
  • Basically one needs to have faith in G-d but needs to have the knowledge about what G-d expects from us. Faith in things not known or baseless claims is a dangerous thing especially if the faith contradicts what G-d has clearly commanded.
