Does Isaiah 53 say that Jesus died for our sins? ~ Cross reference of 1 Peter 2:24-26 to Isaiah 53:4-6

Peter makes a claim that Jesus shed his blood on the cross for people's sins and by doing this all who believe in him are dead to sin and can live in righteousness. He also says that humans have been like lost sheep prior to Jesus dying on the cross and now that he sacrificed himself, we can return to the one shepherd and overseer of the believers faith.

He cross references Isaiah 53:4-6 to say that Isaiah prophesied about this truth 700 years before.

What seems odd to me is that Peter a couple of years ago chastises Jesus for saying he has to die according to Isaiah 53 and Peter was clueless. Christians claim that the holy spirit was key for Peter to understand Jesus's goal.

Isaiah 53 has no markers that say the servant is the messiah. There are 3 other servant songs that are about Israel so why does Isaiah 53 servant song have to be about the messiah?

If you read a reliable Hebrew translation of Isaiah 53 you will see that the servant suffers instead of others. Christians claim Jesus died on the cross to redeem others sins.

This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.

My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.

G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,”[f] but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Isaiah 53:4 Indeed, he bore our illnesses, and our pains-he carried them, yet we accounted him as plagued, smitten by God and oppressed. 5 But he was pained because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his wound we were healed. 6 We all went astray like sheep, we have turned, each one on his way, and the Lord accepted his prayers for the iniquity of all of us.

  • Peter claims that Jesus took on himself the sins of the whole world. Isaiah 53:4 says the servant took the infirmities & diseases of all mankind.
  • Even if we say that sin a metaphor for infirmities & diseases, this should ideally mean that mankind is free from sicknesses and physical infirmities or like most Christians would like to midrash it, that Jesus took away the biggest infirmity and sickness called sin.
  • They have a right to do it, but consider the below two points.
  • Clearly the physical infirmities and sicknesses have not been eliminated. The Pharmaceutical & Medical industry is still in business.
  • Spiritual infirmities and sicknesses still exist, humans sin and humans do not not all worship the ONE TRUE G-D.
  • This leaves only one option, and that is to believe that our sins and spiritual infirmities are forgiven by G-d because of Jesus's sacrifice and those who believe in Jesus will be saved from hell.
  • This is a statement of faith that has no basis in the Tanakh. There is not one passage in Tanakh that says that the messiah will die for us and we need to believe in the messiah to escape hell.
  • The entire Christian faith that Jesus came to die for our sins is based on Isaiah 53 which does not have any markers like "anointed one" "line of David", "peace", "gather", "rule", "kingdom", "knowledge of the ONE TRUE G-D" ... to say that it is talking about the messiah.
