When did Jesus become god's son? ~ Cross reference of Acts 13:32 to Psalm 2:7
- In Mark Jesus is a human being and there is no virgin birth. Jesus becomes the son of god when he is baptized by John the dipper.
- Matthew and Luke make Jesus son of god through the virgin birth
- John has Jesus son of god from eternity
- Paul preached that Jesus became the son of god on his resurrection.
All the disciples were illiterate Aramaic speaking people. I don't think they could even read the Hebrew scrolls. So clearly they would have told stories for decades and used some form of poems to make sure the facts were kept intact.
Yet you find such inconsistencies in the 4 gospels and instead of accepting the above facts being the cause for these issues, Christians claim the holy spirit is the author of the Greek text and every word is accurate. What amazes is that you will find tons of blogs where Christians "defend the lord" with painful explanations to make the Greek text look right.
I stay away from these discrepancies as we have bigger issues in the core beliefs and teachings of the Greek text that do not align with what G-d said in the Tanakh.
Let us see why Psalm 2 is has nothing to do with Jesus.

All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad.
This post is not intended to offend anyone's faith but for those people who are Seeking the truth of THE ONE TRUE G-D of the universe to who we owe all our love, gratitude & devotion.
My encouragement to you is that you read the whole chapter of Tanakh that the Greek text quotes so you get the context and understand what G-d actually said.
G-d Bless and Seek THE Truth.
Acts 13:32 “We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: “‘You are my son; today I have become your father.’[b]
Psalm 2:7 I will tell of the decree; The Lord said to me, "You are My son; this day have I begotten you.
I will summarize Acts 13:13-32 but encourage you to read these few passages for yourself so you can get more details that what I am summarizing. Against each topics I will call out some of the issues for you to consider.
- The context of Acts 13:32 is that Paul lands in Pisidian, Antioch and is addressing the Jews and gentiles in the synagogue. After the Sabbath practice of reading from Torah, Prophets & Writings, for some reason the Rabbi's ask Paul to speak and convey if he has any message for the people.
- Gentiles are never allowed to enter the synagogue leave alone be a part of the Sabbath session. [See Verse 16]
- At best the gentiles can stand outside the synagogue and talk to the Jews once they come out.
- Why would a Rabbi ask someone from outside to address the congregation. There is no format for guest speakers in a Sabbath session.
- Paul takes off on a rant about Israel's past just like Simon does in Acts 7 [Verses 16-22]
- With this foundation laid, Paul links the promise G-d made to David saying that Jesus was that promise fulfilled and that John the dipper was a witness.
- John denies being the forerunner / Elijah. Click to read more details
- He then takes a few more verses of ink to say that the Jews in Jerusalem rejected Jesus and had him killed and they did to him all that was said in Isaiah 53[I think that is what he meant in Verse 29]. Click to see why Isaiah 53 is not about Jesus
- Finally he sums it up saying that we preach this Jesus to you who is the son of god based on poof in Psalm 2:7
- Let us see why Psalm 2 has nothing to do with Jesus.
- This Psalm most likely written about David. Though the author is not mentioned it makes sense based on the content of the Psalm.
- All this Psalm is saying is that G-d has appointed his King on his holy mountain [Zion] and the gentile nations are trying to oppose him.
- The writer says, G-d will destroy these nations and kings. That is what happened during David's reign. G-d placed David as the king of Israel and through him G-d defeated all the nations around him to the point that no king raised against David during his time and also through Solomon's reign.
- Where in Psalm 2 does David talk about crucifixion or resurrection.
- Christians believe Jesus existed eternally so how can he become the son of god “today”
- In context this is a Psalm that applies to David than to Jesus who never ruled, had a throne or defeated any nations.
