Did Moses say he was trembling when he saw G-d? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 12:21 to Deuteronomy 9:19

Image
Where did Hebrews 12 find a passage that says that Moses was terrified and trembling with fear on seeing the glory of G-d. All Torah says is that when G-d started speaking to Moses, the people were scared. They tell Moses to speak to G-d and tell them what G-d said and they will obey. The NIV cross reference is to Deuteronomy 9:19 that is about the golden calf incident that happened on the 40th day of Moses being on the mountain and not the 1st day when the glory of G-d descended on mount Sanai. This is probably a fix that recent authors tried to do to the original context that the author of Hebrews got wrong. Should not the Greek text that is god breathed get such facts right? No theology involved so will leave it here. All Images are links to Google Images. Copyright violations not intended. All Greek Text references are from NIV and Tanakh references are from Chabad. Was Israel not able to bear the command not to touch Mount Sanai? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 12:20 to Exodus 19:12

Image
Hebrews 12 says that Israel could not endure the command that G-d gave that no man or beast should touch or come close to the mountain when G-d's glory descended on mount Sanai. Not sure what he means by this. The command from G-d was that no man or beast should come close to the mountain and if someone does come, he must be stoned. The command was clear and Moses communicated the command to the people and there were markers made to let the people know they should not come close to the mountain. If you read verse 21-25 G-d repeats the command and when Moses tells G-d that it will not happen, G-d actually insists to go down and make double sure it does not happen.   No theology involved so will share the passages on this event and leave it. Was Enoch taken to heaven alive because he had faith? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 11:5 to Genesis 5:24

Image
Hebrews quotes Able, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua & Rahab to assert that they were all blessed because of the faith they had in G-d. He then states that they did not receive the promise as they had to wait for the promise to be fulfilled only when Jesus came and all humanity that believed in Jesus are saved I guess. One point that stands out in this chapter is in verse 26 where he says Moses refused to claim his place as the son of Pharaoh's daughter for the sake of Jesus who is greater than all the wealth of Egypt. Kind of bizarre how he came up with this. Let us see if what Hebrew claims is right. All Images are links to Google Images. Copyright violations not intended. Did Isaiah and Habakkuk prophesy that Jesus would return soon after his ascension to heaven? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 10:36 to Isaiah 26:20, Habakkuk 2:3

Hebrews encourages the Christians that they need to stay strong and persevere in the faith of Jesus. He also says that very soon Jesus will return [to take them to heaven I guess]. To establish this faith, he cross references Isaiah 26 & Habakkuk 2. Let us see if Jesus's return from heaven was prophesied by Isaiah & Habakkuk. All Images are links to Google Images. Will god judge the people who reject[ed] Jesus? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 10:30 to Deuteronomy 32:35, Psalm 135:14

Image
The author of Hebrews seems to assert that, if any person rejected the law of Moses [technically this is the law of G-d. Moses did not come up with these laws] with 2 witnesses the person would be put to death. This is not a right statement. There were only a few laws that entailed for capital punishment. He then claims that if god would punish people for offending the law, how much more god will punish the people who rejected Jesus. He cross references a couple of passages from Tanakh. Let us check these passages to see if these are talking about the punishment of god for not believing in the messiah or something else. All Images are links to Google Images. Is Jesus the ONCE and FOR ALL sacrifice for sins? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 10:5 to Psalm 40:6

Image
Hebrews 10 is driving one point that Jesus is the fulfillment of the law & that G-d gave the law only to point to Jesus. The author claims that now that Jesus sacrificed himself as the FINAL ONE AND FOR ALL sacrifice, no more sacrifices are needed. To establish this belief, the Greek text even went to the extent of changing Tanakh. So Christians believe that the only way for a person to get his sins forgiven, is to believe that Jesus died for their sins. The Greek text changes the passage "you dug my ears for me" so I am attentive to your commands to "but a body you prepared for me" to say that god gave Jesus for humanity. That aside, there are several issues in the key message of Hebrews 10 which I will cover in this post. Are there any passages in Tanakh that say that, once the messiah comes, the law will be shelved? G-d says in several places in Tanakh that the sacrifice of human is an abomination to him. So how could he have provided Jesus as a sacrifice. Ta

Did god put the new covenant into the heart of Christians? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 8:7 to Jeremiah 31:31-34

Image
Hebrews 8 makes a claim that Jeremiah prophesied that Jesus is the high priest for Christians and he has established a new covenant that has faded away the old covenant that G-d had made with Israel. The claim is that while the old covenant was based on keeping the law, the new one is in the heart of the people and thus this is based on faith and the old covenant will fade away. This is yet another misinterpretation of the passage in Jeremiah 31. Let us see why. All Images are links to Google Images. Copyright violations not intended. Did G-d show Moses the sanctuary that is in Heaven? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 8:5 to Exodus 25:40

Image
Hebrews 8 starts with the author asserting that after Jesus rose from the grave, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god. He then says that Jesus is serving as a high priest in the heavenly sanctuary and offering sacrifices to god on behalf of the believers. He then asserts that this heavenly sanctuary is a copy and far superior to the earthly one which was made with human hands while the heavenly one I guess was made by god himself and the gift and sacrifices being made by Jesus in heaven are far superior due to the new covenant in Jesus. He then cross references Genesis 25:40 that talks about G-d telling Moses that he should have the menorah built the way he showed him. What bothers me is that, Exodus 25 does not talk about the specifications of the sanctuary being shown to Moses but only the menorah design being shown. Also the assertion that there is a heaven in a physical state and that there is a sanctuary is not mentioned in the Torah. So how can one add d

Did G-d promise many descendants to Abraham or Jesus? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 6:14 to Genesis 22:17

Image
Hebrews confuses me with so many weird claims. Here he is claiming that god promised Jesus many descendants, I believe he is trying to say that god promised Jesus as the savior of people sins and once this was done, all people who believe in Jesus are the children that god promised Abraham.  The cross reference to the promise that G-d made to Abraham has a couple of issues. This is some kind of Midrash [foreshadow, cloud, mirror ...] on the passages rather than an actual prophecy. The promise to Abraham came with a covenant and commands which Christians do not follow so I think this is not a right prophesy to prove what Hebrews is claiming. The promise to Abraham is his descendants and not to gentiles and pagans. All Images are links to Google Images. Copyright violations not intended. Was Jesus the high priest? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 5:5-6 to Psalm 2:7, Psalm 110:4

Image
Hebrews 5 continues to try and assert that Jesus is the high priest. Like I said in the post on Hebrews 3:11. I think this is a theology that Christians came up with to justify the dead messiah. So the confusion I see is that the gospels struggled hard to establish that Jesus is the messiah who came in the line of David [Judah] and here Hebrews tries to make Jesus come from the line of Aaron. If you read the 4 gospel, you will see the way the Christology of Jesus evolved. From being a human in Mark, you will see John having Jesus create the universe. Scholars believe Mark was the first gospel that was written around 70 CE, Matthew & Luke were written sometime in 85 CE and John was last to be written around 90 CE. In Mark Jesus is a human being and there is no virgin birth. Jesus becomes the son of god when he is baptized by John the dipper. Matthew and Luke make Jesus son of god through the virgin birth John has Jesus son of god from eternity Paul preached that Jesus became the son

Is Sabbath rest about going to heaven? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 4:4 to Genesis 2:2

Image
This is probably a very sloppy verse in the Greek text where the author of Hebrews says that "somewhere he has spoken" so much for every word of the Greek text being god breathed.  Anyway what Hebrews 4 is saying is that Christians who believed in Jesus will enter the rest [I believe he is saying that the Christians will go to heaven], while Israel did not believe in Jesus and hence are not be going to heaven. What confuses me is why does he quote Genesis 2:2 that talks about G-d taking rest on the seventh day. There are several other passages that talk about Sabbath that G-d gave as a command to Israel. I will quote a few of these passages and leave this post here as Sabbath rest is for Israel as part of the 613 laws and they are to keep it for eternity on this earth.  This is not about going to heaven and resting. Did god say that anyone who does not believe in Jesus will not enter place of rest? ~ Cross reference of Hebrews 3:11 to Psalm 95:7

Image
Hebrews 3 focusses on projecting Jesus as a priest. This is not in line with what Tanakh says about the messiah. Tanakh says that Jesus should be a descendant of David[Judah]. He should rule and bring peace.  Could this is be an embellishment to support the death of Jesus, Christians came up with an approach that first time he will wipe out sin and and the next time he will do the expected messiah role. While the Christian belief is that Jesus is the sacrificial lamb, here for some reason, Hebrews projects Jesus as the priest as well to. So I guess the belief is that Jesus is the high priest who offered himself as a sacrifice. This cross reference is about how unbelief in Jesus is going to make people stand condemned. The cross reference from Psalm 95 I guess is to show that David prophesied about how the Jews will stand condemned because of their unbelief. Let us read Psalm 95 in context and see if this is true.
